Geneva Goodin
Geneva Goodin, age 85, of Woodbine, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 at Oak Tree Hospital.
She was a member of the Corn Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lonzo E. Goodin; parents, Uriah and Dona Petrey; four sisters, Madge Mitchell, Gladys Stinson, Nella Petrey and Mossi Bishop, all of Woodbine; and one granddaughter, Rhonda Goode of Lansing, Tenn.
She is survived by one son, Earl Goodin of Woodbine; one daughter, Anna and James R. Worley of Corbin; one grandson, James P. and Leslie Worley of Lancaster, Ky.; five granddaughters, Tina and Lonnie McCoy of Lexington, Ky., Tish and David Williams of Arlington, Texas, Kelli and Eugene Paul of Woodbine, Krystal Collett of Woodbine and Tina and Jimmy Walters of Corbin; six great-grandsons, Dylon and Jacob Worley, Mason McCoy, Aaron Williams, Austin Paul and Cody Collett; six great-granddaughters, Abbey Worley, Adrianna Paul and Jenny Collett, Kristen Carter, Heather and Shelby Walters; and two brothers, Clifford and Glenda Petrey and Clinton and Nancy Petrey of Woodbine.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Corn Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Decker officiating.
Burial followed in the Petrey Family Cemetery adjoining Corn Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at O’Neil Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Corn Creek Baptist Church of the American Cancer Society.

Jack W. Coffey
Jack W. Coffey, of Clover Meadows Drive, Corbin, Ky., departed this life on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at his home in Corbin, Ky. He was 67 years, ten months and two days of age. He was born in Harlan County, Ky. on Jan. 5, 1941 to the late Willie K. Coffey and Pearl (Burgan) Coffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Coffey and a son-in-law, Phillip Warren. Jack was a member of Central Baptist Church of Corbin, Ky..
He is survived by his wife, Glenna (Gibson) Coffey of Corbin, Ky.; two daughters, Teresa Warren of Corbin, Ky. and Jamie Cramer of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Amber Centers of Shelbyville, Ky., Autumn Lawson and her husband Brandon of Corbin, Ky., Megan Mayfield of Corbin, Ky. and Mandy Warren of Richmond, Ky.; one great-grandson, Jacob; one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh; three brothers, Kermit Coffey and his wife Galenna of Williamsburg, Ky., Fred Coffey and his wife Joan of Cincinnati, Ohio and Charlie Coffey of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Jean Black of Florence, Ky.; three special sisters-in-law, Ivy Moses of Williamsburg, Ky., Phyllis Faulkner of Corbin, Ky. and Eula Simmons of Saylersville, Ky.; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of other friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at Central Baptist Church in Corbin, Ky.
The funeral service was at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at the Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Corbin, Ky. where Mr. Coffey was laid to rest. Charles Alsip, Dallas Hart, Bill Crook, Charlie Lawless, Gary McDaniels, Donald Kraus, Winston Phelps and David Gross served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Corbin High School Football Team, Donald Gross and the Redhound Varsity Club.

Cathlynn Parks Jones
Cathlynn Parks Jones, 83, of Corbin, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 at the UK Hospital at Lexington.
She was born Jan. 11, 1925 in Whitley County, Ky. to the late Arthur and Grace Kidd Parks. Two brothers, Walter and Carl Parks and two sisters, Ruth Hubner and Martha Jewell Harris, predeceased her. Cathlynn belonged to First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Jones; a stepdaughter, Kim Abel and stepgrandson William Jones, both of Pittsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Becky Leick and Maxine Eckert of Corbin and Mary Caroll Smith of Hamilton, Ohio; her godchild, Laura Tucker and several neices and nephews.
Visitation was at 6 p.m. Friday at O’Neil Funeral Home with the funeral at 7 p.m. with Rev. Jim Hunter officiating.
Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery with a graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Family and friends were pallbearers. The Winsome SS Class members will be honorary bearers.

Alma Ward

Alma Ward, lovingly known as “Mammaw”, age 103, of Corbin, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 at Baptist Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Everett Ward of Woodbine; sisters, Flora Harrell, Cecil Ramsey, Myrtle Helton; brothers, Roy Parsley and John Parsley; and beloved stepdaughter, Dixie Jones of Louisville.
She leaves behind great-niece (which she raised) Mary Lou Giles and husband Bill and her children, Elaine Day, Patrick Giles and David Giles; also special nieces, Georgia Altherr and Terrie Jo Valentine, along with many other family and friends.
Alma was a Christian and a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church of Corbin.
Visitation was from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at O’Neil Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at Perkins Cemetery led by Rev. Keaton B. Smith.

Dwain Adkins

Dwain Adkins, of North Second Street, Williamsburg, Ky., departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 in Williamsburg, Ky. He was 61 years, four months and 25 days of age. He was born in Whitley County, Ky. on June 10, 1947 to the late Robert Lee Adkins and Elise (Jones) Adkins. Dwain was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his daughter, Deann Adkins and granddaughter Amber Jordan of Tallahassee, Fla.; his mother, Elisa Jones Adkins of Palmetto, Ga.; a sister, Janis L. Hodge of Tallahassee, Fla.; a niece, Niki S. Berardi of Jacksonville, Fla.; first cousin and special friend, Jimmy Woodward of Williamsburg, Ky.; and a host of other friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home.
The funeral service was at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Woodward and Rev. Sherley Adkins officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Pleasant View, Ky. Jimmy Woodward, Tim Moses, Scot Moses, Tony Adkins, Shane Adkins and J.C. Adkins served as pallbearers.

Brody Michael Helton
Infant Brody Michael Helton departed this life on Nov. 5, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. He was born Oct. 26, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. He was ten days of age.
He is survived by his parents, Michael Helton and Clarissa Burgan Helton of Rockholds, Ky.; his grandparents, Chris and Lafonda Rose of Williamsburg, Ky., Bobby and Angie Burgan of Williamsburg, Ky. and Crystal Bunch of Corbin, Ky.; several aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour, Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dorman Patrick officiating. Burial followed in the Highland Cemetery.

Novella (Doll) Lawson Croley
Novella (Doll) Lawson Croley, of Watts Creek Road, Williamsburg, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008 at her home in Williamsburg, Ky. She was 80 years, ten months and 28 days of age. She was born on December 8, 1927 in Whitley County, Ky. to the late, Clarence Richard Lawson and Martha (Brown) Lawson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Oren Croley; her father and stepmother, Clarence and Ethel Lawson; her mother, Martha (Brown) Lawson; and a brother, Grover Cleveland Lawson. Doll was an educator for over 48 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Dirrim and her husband Anthony Karl of Williamsburg, Ky.; two grandchildren, Jamie Carman and her husband Kenny of Topsail Island, N.C. and Samantha Dirrim of Williamsburg, Ky.; two sisters, Patsy Shields of Tennessee and Virginia Marie Puckett of Michigan; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at Croley Funeral Home.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Carpenter officiating. Burial followed in the Whitley Memorial Gardens in Williamsburg, Ky.

Roger Bird, of Cemetery Road, Williamsburg, Ky, departed this life on Friday, Nov, 7, 2008 at his home in Williamsburg, Ky. He was 71 years, seven months and 28 days of age. He was born in Whitley County, Ky. on March 9, 1937 to the late, Henry Everett Bird and Flossie Ellen (Inman) Bird. Roger was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church in Corbin, Ky.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Bird of Williamsburg, Ky.; one son, Wayne Bird and his wife Tammi Louise of Williamsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Teresa Watson and her husband Earnest of Rockholds, Ky. and Lisa Shirer of Williamsburg, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Kaden Bird, Braden Bird, Erica Shirer, Sierra Shirer, Vanessa Hinkle, Crystal Freshour and Clinton Goodin; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Jean Brown and her husband Phillip of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother, William Albert Bird and his wife Selma of Corbin, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home.
Funeral service was 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Craig Thomas and Bro. David Chandler officiating. Burial followed in the Davis Addition, Highland Park Cemetery in Williamsburg, Ky.
The Williamsburg Police Department served as pallbearers. Everett Inman, Bob Mauney, Jack Bowlin, Mike Paul, Jerry Woods and Russell Jones served as honorary pallbearers.

Patricia Hatfield Hicks
Patricia Hatfield Hicks, age 64, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Jellico, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. She was born Nov. 29, 1943 in Jellico, Tenn.
She is preceded in death by her father, Hefferman Hatfield and mother, Clemmie Carroll Hatfield.
She is survived by her two sons, Douglas Walden and wife Alice of Knoxville, Tenn. and Carl Joseph Walden and wife Angela of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Janice Aikens and husband Homer of Sweetwater, Tenn., Mary Southerland and husband Henry of Jellico, Tenn. and Charlene Bowling of Jellico, Tenn.; one brother, Carson Hatfield and wife Pernia of Jellico, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and a host of friends and family to mourn her passing.
Visitation was 12-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 with funeral services at 2 p.m. in the Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Walden officiating. Burial followed in the Douglas Cemetery.

Alma Smith

Alma Smith, age 85, of Williamsburg, wife of the late Mainard Smith, passed away Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.
She is survived by one sister, Josephine Smith of Hydrick, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Geneva Palmer of Lexington, Ky.; niece, Evelyn Ruth Sumner; and nephews, Ernie Sumner, Jimmy Smith, Michael Smith and Jessie Smith.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Sumner and Evelyn Smith; and a brother, James Davis.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial followed at the Highland Park Cemetery, Davis Addition.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10.

Thomas H. Lackie
Thomas H. Lackie of Jasper Mackey Road, Rockholds, Ky., departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Ky. He was 82 years, 10 months and 17 days of age. He was born in Paris, Texas on Dec. 21, 1925 to the late, Thomas H. Lackie Sr. and Agnes (Ellis) Lackie. Thomas was a veteran of the United States Marines and the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ronda Lackie of Rockholds, Ky.; one son, Robert Lackie and his wife Mary of Alpine, Calif.; one daughter, Jorja Terpenning and her husband Woody of Yacolt, Wash.; one granddaughter, Gena McLaughlin of New Hampshire; several other grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation was 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeremy Abner and Rev. Randall Roach officiating. Burial will be in the Moses Addition, of Pleasant View Cemetery in Williamsburg. Military Honors will be performed at the graveside by the American Legion Post #88, Corbin, Ky.

Jason "Tank" McFarland

Jason “Tank” McFarland, age 30, of Kimberly, Ala. and formerly of Corbin, passed away on Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 in Alabama.
Born in Corbin, he was a manager with Farmers Trading Post in Morris, Ala. and was Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his parents, James W. and Barbara Lawson McFarland of Corbin; his son, Tyler McFarland of Corbin; his fiancée, Missy Rouse of Alabama; sister, Tabatha Harrell and husband Terry of Corbin; two brothers, Anthony McFarland and wife Saundra and Mark McFarland, all of Corbin; his granny, Cecil McFarland of Corbin; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family and friends, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Steely officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery.

Carl Baker, age 76, of Jellico, passed away Friday, Nov. 7 at Williamsburg Nursing Home.
His wishes were to be cremated and his remains were return to his family in Hilliard, Ohio.

Roscoe Donald Durham, age 73, of Corbin, passed away on Nov. 4, 2008 at Rockcastle County Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Whorton officiating.
Burial was in Corinth Cemetery.
