Six more beer licenses issued; seven stores now selling booze in Corbin
Six more stores jumped on the beer wagon in Corbin Friday.
After receiving notice that Kentucky Alcoholic Beverage Control has approved the licenses, Corbin ABC Officer Bruce Rains issued licenses for the Kroger stores on U.S. 25E and 25W, Circle K stores on Fifth Street and Gordon Street, Speedway on Falls Hwy. and Mega Mart on Master Street.
They join Rite Aid, which has been selling beer since Wednesday.
Rains said there have been steady crowds at Rite Aid since Wednesday and business was picking up at the Circle K on Gordon Street Friday afternoon as vendors unloaded cases of beer and stocked the waiting coolers inside.
"Everybody has got on great," Rains said of the people coming to buy beer, noting license plates showed they have driven from Laurel and McCreary counties and even across the state line from Tennessee. "There have been no problems."
At least three more stores have applied to sell beer in Corbin, Rains said and decisions on those applications are expected in the next week.
In addition, Rains said he expects several of the 13 stores for whom applications have been filed for licenses to sell hard liquor to eventually apply for a beer license.
The 13 stores are vying for one of the three liquor licenses available in Corbin.
A decision on who will receive those licenses is expected in late June or early July.
