Wilson looking good at ALC
I sincerely offer my condolences to Coach Billy Hicks, his wife Betsy, and their family in the loss of their son, Tyler.
Tyler died as a result of an automobile accident on his way back to Fort Knox, where he was a solider.
The Hicks family has always been part of Corbin, since Billy came to Corbin High School as the head basketball coach in the 80’s.
"Hounds top Dragons
The Corbin Redhounds ran over the Harlan Green Dragons in the final game of the regular season behind the big plays of Matt Jewell and Hunter Grubb.
Dakota Robertson was very active on defense. The Redhounds will travel to Hodgenville this week to play the LaRue County Hawks in the first-round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Fourteen seniors will be trying to extend their playing career as far as they can by winning and advancing into the playoffs.
Wilson at Alice Lloyd
Paul Pietrowski and I went down to the University of the Cumberlands to watch a basketball scrimmage between the Patriots and the Eagles of Alice Lloyd College Thursday of last week.
Isaac Wilson, a former Redhound and now the starting point guard for Alice Lloyd did a good job. Isaac had a very good game as he scored 13 points and dealt out several assists. Cumberlands won the game by 13 points.
Coach Don Butcher is the Patriots coach and has done an excellent job recruiting some really good athletes.
We also had an opportunity to speak with Randy Vernon, the Athletic Director for Cumberlands. Vernon was an outstanding basketball coach for many years at the Cumberlands.
'Cats in action
The Kentucky Wildcats basketball will swing into action within the next few weeks. Coach John Calipari has a new group of freshmen ready to take on the world.
I do not feel this group will be what the ‘Cats fans have come to expect. That is not to say they will not compete for a second consecutive National Championship.
The Class of 2013 has gathered commitments from the Harrison twins, Andrew and Aaron from Texas, James Young, Marcus Lee and Derek Willis, out of Bullitt East High School. This may be their best ever recruiting class, especially if they can pick up a commitment from Andrew Wiggins or Jules Randle or both.
I saw where Elisha Justice has left the University of Louisville to play closer to home at the University of Pikeville. He left Louisville in order to be closer to his grandfather. His grandfather has been ill.
My good friend Jerry Bird is experiencing some health issues and I ask that you remember Jerry in your prayers. I have known Jerry all of my life and he was my favorite player at the University of Kentucky.
It may just be me, but I though the World Series was very boring, I guess the manager of the Giants, Bruce Botchy must be doing an outstanding job, as he has won two of the last three years with only the catcher, Posey left. I felt he was an All-State caliber player.
