2023 13th Region Tournament: Lady Hounds win opener

Date:

With a 57-42 victory over Pineville Tuesday evening, the defending region champion Corbin Lady Hounds are one step closer to another title.

The Lady Hounds were dominant Tuesday, leading the entire way en route to their first round victory that improved them to 22-9 on the year. Sophomore Kylie Clem led all scoring on the night with 20 points. Teammate Kallie Housley finished the night with 11 points, while Raegan Walker scored nine. Mahayla Jordan and Bailey Stewart both scored seven points in the win, and Izzy Walker contributed three points.

Corbin now moves on to Friday night’s regional semifinals, where they will meet a Jackson County Lady Generals team that secured a convincing win over Bell County in the late game Tuesday. The Lady Hounds defeated Jackson back on Dec. 8 in the 2022 WYMT Mountain Classic, winning by a final score of 54-41.

After their win over Bell County, the Lady Generals will come into the 13th Region semis at 21-9 overall. The winner of this matchup will face either North Laurel or South Laurel in the tournament finals this Saturday evening.

The News Journal will provide additional updates from the 2023 13th Region Tournaments as they become available.
