Thor Barman and Cathy Prewitt helped serve chili last week during the Corbin Police Department and Corbin Fire Department’s annual chili cook off.

This year’s chili cook off was the third time the event has been held and it was the first time that the Corbin Fire Department has taken home top honors.

Corbin Fire Lt. Tyler Tye beat out Corbin Police Detective Robbie Hodge during the March 18 cookoff.

The fire department commemorated the win with a humorous Facebook post the following morning, which read, “Exercise caution while traveling on Main Street this morning, maintaining a speed limit of 25 mph. Corbin Police Department may be less tolerant due to the recent conclusion of the annual chili cook off where the Corbin Fire Department secured victory over the police department. We appreciate everyone’s participation and support of the Carnegie Center of Corbin last night.”

The event raised over $1,800 for the restoration effort. The board that oversees the Carnegie Center plans to have the bottom windows renovated next.
