Woman gets two years for mail theft

Whitley Circuit Court Judge Paul Winchester recently sentenced a Williamsburg woman to two years and one day in prison for stealing a package from a residence.

On Dec. 16, 2024, the Whitley County Grand Jury indicted Demetria Huddleston, 28, of Hanging Rock Road, for theft of mail matter in connection with a Nov. 8, 2024, incident where a package was intentionally stolen from someone’s residence, according to the indictment.

According to her arrest citation, Huddleston stole a mailed and delivered package that was left on the front porch of a Rains Street residence in Williamsburg in close proximity of the residence’s mailbox. The incident was captured on video surveillance, and she admitted to stealing the package.

She pleaded guilty on June 27 as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
