Sherri Lynn Crawford Skidmore

Date:

Sherri Lynn Crawford Skidmore, age 77, of Woodbine, Kentucky, passed away on January 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on August 23, 1948, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to the late Ivan Lee Williams and Grace Tolson Elkins, and was raised in Wasilla, Alaska.
First and foremost, Sherri was a devoted mother and grandmother. Family was the center of her world, and she poured her love, strength, and care into those she held dear. She was known for her determination, resilience, and the belief that there was very little she could not accomplish once she set her mind to it.
Throughout her life, Sherri wore many hats and worked in roles that reflected her strength and independence. She served as a dispatcher for the Alaska State Police Department, worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Union in Anchorage, Alaska, and later moved to Kentucky where she became a foreman and owner of a coal mine. She also spent time logging, taking on physically demanding work with confidence and grit. Sherri was truly a woman who could do it all.
When she wasn’t working, Sherri expressed her creativity through sewing, crocheting, painting, and artwork. She loved creating things with her hands and found peace and joy in gardening and tending to her flowers, which reflected the care and beauty she brought into the world.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan Lee Williams and Grace Tolson Elkins; her brothers, Alvin Williams, Robert Wayne Snider, Sr., and Bun Snider; and her beloved grandson, Bobby Ray Miles.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tommy Skidmore; her children, Dennise Crawford Lanham and husband Roy Lanham, Danny Crawford, and Charlie Crawford, who was like a daughter to her; Tommy Ray Skidmore Jr. and wife Melissa Skidmore, Tony Skidmore, and Charles Elliott and wife; her grandchildren, Jamie Oakes and husband Thomas Oakes, Stephanie Moses and husband Kiker Moses, Melissa Mullis and husband Brandon Mullis, Robert Lanham and wife Tasha Lanham, Chase Crawford, Joshua Crawford and wife Tara Jo, Blake Crawford and wife Shelby, Guy Bailey, and Karlie Shehorn; and Andrew Skidmore, Jonathan Skidmore, and Hannah Skidmore.
She is also survived by her sisters, Verlyn Jennings and Jan Schmiege and husband Tim Schmiege.
She is also survived by many additional grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who loved her dearly.
Sherri’s faith was an important part of her life. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
She also loved the Serenity Prayer, which could often be found displayed in her home: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen
Sherri leaves behind a legacy of strength, creativity, faith, and unconditional love. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched, the family she cherished, and the beauty she created with her hands and her heart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 3, in the Hart Funeral Home Chapel with Matt Coughlin officiating.
Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 P.M. Tuesday at Hart Funeral Home, located at 1011 Master Street in Corbin.
Hart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
