A Knox County man is accused of driving under the influence of drugs, and other offenses, after a single-vehicle crash on KY 1232 near Corbin Tuesday morning.
Curtis Myrick, 39, of Bailey Hollow was traveling south on the road (often called Old Barbourville Hwy.) when he veered to the left, crossed the center line, then went off the roadway, striking a road sign, then a culvert before his vehicle, a 1993 Nissan
Sentra, came to rest on its passenger side up against a guardrail. The accident happened about 8:40 a.m.
"I don’t know if he passed out while he was driving or what. He was so out of it, I could hardly get a word in. He was just mumbling," said Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Liford who is investigating the accident.
Myrick told police he had taken some Lorcet pills, which are prescribed to him, prior to the accident. Liford said he thinks Myrick took too many.
"He took quite a bit, I’d say," Liford said. "I really won’t know until the bloodwork comes back."
Myrick was charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to wear a seat belt and driving on a suspended license.
Liford said Myrick was also wanted on a warrant out of Pulaski County for failure to pay child support.
Myrick was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center for treatment following the accident. He was released later Tuesday and then lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
