A vehicle reported stolen in Whitley County has been recovered in Georgia and an Emlyn man has been charged in connection with the theft.

According to Sheriff Colan Harrell, 43-year-old Hobert Elswick is facing charges of theft by unlawful taking of the value of $500 or more but less than $10,000 – auto and theft or disposal of parts from a vehicle of the value under $500.

Elswick is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.

The investigation began on Feb. 18 when Deputy John Hill was called to Edgewood Mobile Homes in Williamsburg concerning a stolen truck.

“Several days later, Dep. Hill received information of the truck’s possible whereabouts from Kentucky State Police Trooper David Lassister,” Harrell stated.

The tip indicated that the truck could be found in Georgia and that Elsick, a former employee at the company, was the individuals who took it.

Elswick reportedly had been arrested in the Atlanta metro area for shoplifting.

Hill contacted Georgia law enforcement, which located the vehicle outside the business from which Elswick was accused of shoplifting.

Based on that information, Hill secured an arrest warrant for Elswick and took him into custody on the warrant Tuesday.

Under Kentucky law, Elswick faces one to five years in prison if he is found guilty.
