Kentucky State Police have identified the man killed during a late Monday morning traffic crash on I-75 in Whitley County.

KSP was notified at 11:53 a.m. Monday that a single vehicle collision had occurred in the northbound lane at the 23-mile marker in Whitley County, according to a KSP release.

The initial investigation indicates that Russell E. Helton, 58, of Woodbine, was operating a 2002 GMC pick-up truck when he lost control of his vehicle causing the vehicle to leave the road and flip over onto its top.

As a result of the crash, Helton suffered fatal injuries.

Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley pronounced Helton dead at the scene.

State police are continuing their investigation and were assisted at the scene by the Corbin Police Department, Whitley County EMS, the Corbin Fire Department and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
