A well-known name in eastern Kentucky boys’ basketball is the new name of the head basketball coach at Lynn Camp Schools.   Vencil “Dinky” Phipps, long time coach at Barbourville Independent Schools, has been tapped to lead the growing Lynn Camp team for the 2015-2016 season.

An announcement was made Tuesday afternoon by the Lynn Camp Schools leadership team welcoming Phipps to the ‘Wildcat Universe’.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Phipps and his passion for basketball and athletic success,” said Anthony Pennington, principal at Lynn Camp Schools.

“Coach Phipps will bring new opportunities and growth to Lynn Camp boys basketball as he leads the team to district, region and state championships.”

Championships and winning seasons are a highlight of Phipps’ coaching career.  Phipps was head of the Barbourville basketball program for the past 34 years and has compiled a 622-326 record giving him a nearly 65% win percentage throughout his career.

A press conference has been set for Friday, July 24, at 10am in the auditorium at Lynn Camp Schools to officially welcome and introduce Phipps to the school community.
