w-billy-greeneBilly Greene, 82, of Corbin, was called into the presence of the Lord December 26, 2016 at the Baptist Hospital in Corbin.

He was born in Calvin, to the late Ewing “Doc” and Bessie Durham Greene.  On December 21, 1958, he married the love of his life Mary Kathern Tye Greene and they shared 58 years together.

Billy served as a paratrooper in the US Army, and retired as an electrician after 30 years with CSX Railroad.  He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a 50-year Mason with the Bell Lodge #961 F&AM of Bell County.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard E. Greene of Lima, OH and four sisters: Joyce Coign, Faye Thompson, and Mary M. Coign, all of Calvin, and Virginia Ann Greene of Phoenix, AZ.

Billy and Mary were blessed with two children: Julia Beth Greene Arnold and husband Raymond of Corbin, and Billy D. Greene of Tampa, FL;  two grandsons: Eric Arnold of Corbin and Evan Arnold and wife Megan of Harlan;  five nieces: Jeannie Warren (David) and Joy Saylor (Robert) of Calvin, Mary Lee Holder and Nancy Holder of Harlan, and Margaret Lee Kaufman of Ohio; three nephews: Butch Greene of Ohio, Scott Coign of Middlesboro, and Kenny Engle of Tenn.; two brothers-in-law: Jack Coign of Calvin and Jimmy Tye of Jasper, AL; and a host of friends who will miss him.

The funeral service followed visitation on Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church with pastors Allen Bonnell and Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.

Burial was held at Green Hills Memorial Gardens at Middlesboro.

Pallbearers were Eric Arnold, Evan Arnold, Butch Greene, Scott Coign, Glenn Croley, Robert Saylor, Joel Peyton, and Roger May.  Honorary bearers were Dr. Steven Morton, Dr. Bobby Turner, Dr. Daniel Whitley, Amos Miller, Steve Hart, and Butch Smith.
