Blood drive taking place in Corbin Friday, Dec. 12

Date:

It’s time to sock it to blood shortages. To do that, donors must step up, and they will have the chance to do that at an upcoming blood drive in Corbin.

The blood drive will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, at Grace Health Women’s Care from noon – 5 p.m. It is located at 1019 Cumberland Falls Highway, Corbin.

Donors in the community can put their feet up and donate blood at this Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) drive with all donors receiving a two-pack of socks (while supplies last) as a thank you for boosting the blood supply.

Stocking the shelves is important for the 70-plus hospitals that KBC provides blood to. The upcoming winter season can disrupt blood collections with weather cancellations and an uptick in illness.

Donating blood is easy. Whole blood donations take less than an hour from registration to refreshment, and the blood collection process only takes 8-12 minutes. One hour at this KBC drive could save up to three local lives.

Statistics show that one in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime, and that one in seven people admitted to a hospital receive blood.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call (800) 775-2522.

KBC is the largest independent, full-service, nonprofit blood center in Kentucky, and has been saving local lives since 1968. KBC provides services in 90 Kentucky counties and has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, Pikeville, Somerset and the Tri-County area (Corbin).
