Dorothy “Dot” Ellen King, 92 of Corbin, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at her home in Corbin, after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born September 6, 1924 in Pennington Gap, VA,  to the late Robert T. and Laura Ellen  (Pennington) Moseley. She was a long-time, active member of Central Baptist Church in Corbin. Dot retired after working many years at the Corbin Belk’s Store. She was the rudder who kept the King family on track. Ona Lee Sulfridge, 98, formerly a long-time resident of the Corbin area, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Dover Manor in Georgetown, KY. Born January 28, 1919, in Bark Camp, KY, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Ida Morgan. She was a member of Whippoorwill Pentecostal Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Caleb Sulfridge; two sons: Russell Sulfridge and Donald Sulfridge; siblings: Erman Morgan, Oma Ward, Angeline Lee, and Verl Huff; and daughter-in-law, Betty Sulfridge. Rosie Aline Barton, 74, of Woodbine, passed away Wednesday evening, June 14, 2017 at Baptist Health Corbin. Born in Knox County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Nannie Henson Garland. Her husband E. J. Barton, a son E. J. Barton, Jr., daughter-in-law Sandra Barton, and 12 brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Rosie had pastored the Dowis Chapel Holiness Church and lived out her faith each day.  She cherished her family and time spent with them, and enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. Eddie Nash, 51, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his home. He was a son of the late Fred and Mildred Nash and beloved son-in-law of Ronnie and Betty Jones. He was preceded in death by a son, Tyler Nash and brother Jimmy Nash. Arnold Lee McDaniel, 80, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in Corbin. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Cogdill McDaniel. The funeral service was held Thursday, June 15, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Abner and Rev. Jimmy Elliott officiating. Burial was in the Lynn Camp Cemetery.

Doris Jean Brewer, 70 of Campground Court, Corbin, passed away  on Thursday morning at the Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin. Funeral services for Ms. Doris Jean Brewer were conducted Monday in the Laurel Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harris Brewer, Jr. and Bro. Jonathan Lawson officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin.

Brenda Sue Stevens, 50, of Jellico, TN passed away Friday, June 16, 2017 at the U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.  She was born September 22, 1966 in Clairfield, TN. Brenda is preceded in death by her father, George Stevenson; Mother, Charlotte Jean Aumus Hicks; brother, Dennis Edward Stevenson. She is survived by a daughter, ​Latesha Stevens; grandchildren, Jadon, Cloi and Camron Stevens; stepfather, Delbert Roscoe Hicks; brothers, Roscoe Ray Hicks, Jeffery Allen Hicks; sisters, Betty Lowe, Daisy Mae Hicks; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family to mourn her passing. Earnest Vanover, 81, of Highway 1481, Williamsburg, departed this life on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at his home. He was born on December 30, 1935 to the late Charlie and Lucy Vanover. Linda Renee Pierce, BSN – RN, 43, of Corbin passed away Friday, June 9, 2017, at the University of Kentucky Hospital. Born June 15, 1973, she was the daughter of the late Don and Sue Harness. A loving companion, mother, and grandmother, she was devoted to each of those roles. An active church member, she also found time to enjoy flower gardening and to foster a love/hate relationship with running entailing two – four mile runs.
