Board of directors president defends Corbin Public Library
To the Editor:
In a recent editorial in the Whitley County News-Journal, Trent Knuckles called those who made the decision to “build” a new Corbin Public Library “foolish or myopic.” The fact that even he admits that is an “unfair” statement did not prevent him from making it.

Person who tossed puppy out on highway a coward
To the Editor:
On May 2, 2010, I traveled to McCreary County from North Carolina to visit a sister.
As I exited off the Williamsburg exit and headed to McCreary County, I witnessed an olive-green truck pull off to the side of the road (four lane highway across from Wal-mart). As it sped away, I saw a puppy rolling on the curbside of the highway!

I’ve had some communication with the Dept. of Corrections (local) about my concerns regarding the Whitley County Detention Center and I wanted to share it with anyone who has had a bad experience with the jail system. The address is on the communication letter so if you have had bad treatment at the jail please write to the Dept. of Corrections and voice your story, your complaint, because if you don’t open your mouth, nothing will change.

To the Editor:
Cock fighting is not allowed in Whitley County but every four years we have a reasonable substitute, local elections.
Normally the Judge-Executive race is where the serious action is but it appears that Pat White’s basic competence is too intimidating this time so all eyes are on the race for Sheriff.
Requiring prescriptions for cold medicine a dumb idea
I feel I spend far too much time in this space poking holes in foolish, ill-conceived ideas.
I hate that. I don't want to be a grinch, but I can't help it. Someone has to defend against constant assaults of insanity unleashed on us by those who, apparently, have more idle time than good sense.

The number of citizens hoping to win political offices in next year's election is encouraging and exciting. Robust participation in the political process is a sign that people are interested in the effectiveness with which government serves the people.
