With a 17-10 victory over Whitley County Wednesday evening, the Corbin Redhounds baseball team won their first 13th Region championship title since the 2005 season.
The Hounds, now 24-12 on the year, battled back from a 9-1 deficit to secure their championship win, and will now advance to compete in next week's KHSAA state tournament in Lexington.

At Whitley County High School, the Corbin Redhounds topped Knox Central 4-0 to advance to Wednesday's regional championship game with an overall record of 23 wins and 12 losses. As reported in last week’s edition of the News Journal, a total of 18 high school tennis players from the coverage area are slated to compete in this year’s KHSAA state championships in Lexington.
The tournaments will kick off tomorrow (Thursday) with Corbin’s Katherine Niemeier taking on Carrie Beckman of Sacred Heart at 8:00 a.m. at the University of Kentucky’s Boone/Downing Tennis Complex.

For the second night in a row, the Corbin Redhounds squared off against the Whitley County Colonels while the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets faced the South Laurel Cardinals.
As reported on thenewsjournal.net Tuesday evening, Corbin was able to defeat Whitley County in their first meeting thanks to a late-game surge in the top of the seventh inning. On Wednesday the Redhounds did the same, this time scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to come away with a 5-4 victory. Regular season district play opened up Tuesday for area high school baseball teams, with the Whitley County Colonels hosting the Corbin Redhounds and the South Laurel Cardinals hosting the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets.
The Redhounds went to Whitley County Tuesday looking to keep a three-game win streak alive. On the other hand, the host Colonels were hoping to hang on to their region-best win-loss record. The Corbin Redhounds started the week off with a disappointing 9-6 road loss to 13th Region rivals North Laurel Monday.

The baseball Colonels recently went 4-0 during a Spring Break trip to play in the 2018 Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC.
