Corbin Independent looking into process of forming a district police force

The Corbin Independent School District is exploring the possibility of forming its own police force, which would allow for district-hired officers to be placed throughout all of their school buildings full-time, though plans are still in their infancy and far from certain.

During a special-called Corbin Independent Board of Education meeting last week, board members elected to allow Superintendent David Cox to “look into the process” of requesting an Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) from the Kentucky Department of Justice. An ORI is a nine-character sequence that is used to identify an agency that provides police and criminal justice agencies.
