Corbin Police warn of recent phone scam

Date:

Area residents should be aware of a new scam in which fraudsters are posing as a police officer in an attempt to get money.

According to a release from the Corbin Police Department, multiple reports have been made that someone is using the police department’s phone number to make the call appear legitimate. The scammer is identifying themselves as a “Lt. Phelps” and requesting payments for fines.

Reports claim that the scammer threatens the call recipient with a warrant of arrest if the fines are not paid.

CPD has stressed that the police department will never call anyone regarding a warrant. They are also asking residents to be hyper vigilant in who they share their personal information with and to never give it out to anyone they do not know or trust.
