Dr. Gary L. Steenbergen, 65, passed away at his home in Corbin, Kentucky, on Sunday, August 25, 2024. Born January 23, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Edwin and Pauline Steenbergen.
In addition to his father and mother, Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Earlene Snyder Steenbergen; daughter, Stephanie Steenbergen; and brother, Michael Hubbard.
He was a member of Dorthae Pentecostal Church.
Gary was a life-long learner who proudly earned his Doctorate of Education. He was a retired professor with KCTCS where he was also an advisor of VICA.
He had a variety of interests: Scout Master of Troop 457, President of the Gideons, and President of the Black Knights Chess Club. He was also a Silver Beaver Award recipient.
Gary leaves behind his son, Chris Steenbergen and wife Charlotte of Danville, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Celika, Ava, Caine, and Bishop Steenbergen; sister, Gail Jackson; brother, Keith Steenbergen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl and Ohler Snyder; four brothers-in-law: Roger Snyder (Tammy), Larry Snyder (Konnie), John Snyder, and Jerry Snyder (Jennifer); and sister-in-law, Karen Davis (Rick). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Dorthae Pentecostal Church with Vernon Morris, Billy Evans, and Mike Addison officiating. Burial will follow in Horse Creek Cemetery with David Boles, David Darow, Johnny Fraim, Larry Snyder, John Snyder, Jerry Snyder, Paul Stepp, and Kyle Shadoan serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 12-2 P.M. Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International or the Dorthae Pentecostal Church Building Fund.
