Knox deputies find Gray woman passed out in car with daughter inside

Date:

A Gray woman is facing one count of endangering the welfare of a minor after Knox County Sheriff’s deputies found her asleep in her car with her 10-year-old daughter in the back seat.

According to Sheriff Mike Smith, Deputy Mikey Ashurst arrested 46-year-old Donna Huff outside a residence on Norwood Drive.

Smith said Ashurst began searching for Huff after a call came in to Knox 911 about 3 a.m. reporting that Huff, who was possibly under the influence, had taken her daughter from the child’s grandmother’s home on Tipton Lane.

Ashurst, who had been given a description of the vehicle, located it about 3:50 a.m.

“Deputy Ashurst determined that Donna Huff was under the influence, showing signs of being on Meth,” Smith stated.

Huff was charged with public intoxication – controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Huff was also served with an arrest warrant out of Whitley County for shoplifting.

Huff was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Smith said the child was released to a family member.
