A Lily man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly severely beating another individual.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Kyle Gray arrested 35-year-old Jamie Gambill at his residence on Hopkins Cemetery Road, where the assault allegedly took place.
According to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, Gambill allegedly punched the victim numerous times in the face causing multiple broken bones.
“Your fists can easily be deadly weapons,” Acciardo said.
Acciardo said according to statements, Gambill and the victim were acquaintances.
“The victim said he was invited over. Gambill said the victim forced his way into the residence,” Acciardo said.
Following the incident, the victim reportedly drove himself to St. Joseph–London for treatment of his injuries.
Gambill was charged with first-degree assault.
In addition Gambill and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Taylor Brock, of Lily, were each charged with one count of tampering with physical evidence.
According to Acciardo, the duo had attempted to clean up the blood from the scene.
Gambill is being held in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
Gambill has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to Laurel District Court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a Laurel County Grand Jury.
Under Kentucky law, first-degree assault is a Class B felony carrying a potential prison sentence of 10 to 20 years.
Brock has been released from the detention center on a $2,500 surety bond. Under the terms of a surety bond, the individual signs paperwork agreeing to appear in court as required in lieu of a cash or property bond.
