The Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP)/University of Kentucky has announced that Jeff Lunsford of Lo

ndon, KY has accepted the position of Regional Cancer Control Sp

ecialist I serving the eight-county Cumberland Valley Area Development District.
Lunsford will work with local community partners–both the public and professionals–to create and support programs which reduce the incidence and mortality of cancer in the area.

Lunsford is originally from Clay County and resides in Laurel County.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Union College and over 20 years’ experience working as both a social worker and health environmentalist.

Although the majority of Mr. Lunsford’s work has been with the Cumberland Valley District Health Department, he also has experience with Kentucky River District Health Department and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Lunsford says his interest in cancer control is both personal and professional, “I have had several members of my immediate family who’ve struggled with cancer.  I want to promote screening and early detection of cancer, but especially awareness.”
He will be traveling in the area soon to begin networking in the community, meeting local partners and stakeholders who live in the region.

Jeff Lunsford and his wife of 25 years, Connie, make their home in London, Kentucky and are proud parents of a daughter, Christa.

The Kentucky Cancer Program is a statewide community based cancer control program affiliated with the University of Kentucky/Markey Cancer Center in Central and East Kentucky, and with the University of Louisville/Brown Cancer Center in Jefferson County/Western Kentucky.

Those interested in participating in cancer control activities in Cumberland Valley may contact Lunsford at either his email: jlunsfor@kcp.uky.edu or by phone at (606)309-9111.
More information about Kentucky Cancer Program and other cancer resources are available on the KCP web site at:   www.kcp.uky.edu.
