Petrey hired as new WCHS varsity girls basketball head coach

Date:

Several weeks after former Whitley County varsity girls basketball Head Coach Sean Pigman announced his resignation, the Lady Colonels have learned that their new head coach will be a familiar face to the WCHS community – Michael Petrey.

Petrey is a 2004 graduate of Whitley County, and a 2010 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. As a basketball Colonel, he was part of two district runner-up teams, scoring 1,000 points along the way.

Petrey has coached basketball at every level during his career with the Whitley County school district, starting in 2008. Last season, he served as an assistant under Coach Pigman on the varsity girls team.

Petrey has been a special education teacher since 2014. He said that he is excited about this new opportunity, adding, “I have a strong desire for this program to be successful and compete at the highest level.”

Petrey thanks the administration at Whitley County Schools for presenting him with this opportunity, and his family for their continued support.

The WCHS girls finished last season with a 16-14 overall record.
