Prison sentences hand down in burglary, dog torture case

Two Tennessee residents received prison sentences Monday afternoon for burglarizing a Whitley County home in 2014 and torturing a dog.

Dena Brooke Baird, 29, of Duff, and Daniel Myers, 35, of Jellico, broke into the residence of Cathy Evers and shot her dog in the face on Nov. 7, 2014, according to their indictments.

On the day after the burglary, the pair were arrested in Jellico, Tennessee, in a vehicle where Jellico Police recovered two guns reported stolen during the Whitley County burglary in addition to other items.
