As of about 4 p.m. Monday, search efforts were continuing for a missing Gray man, who went into the water at Laurel Lake early Sunday afternoon and hasn’t been seen since.

The incident happened about 12:15 p.m. when John Myrick, 26, fell into the water from a capsized boat. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket and blue jean pants, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department.
Myrick was apparently boating with his brother when his new boat capsized near the Laurel Lake’s City Dam. The brother was able to make it to shore and call for help. He is currently hospitalized. John Myrick is still missing.
Rescue crews are staging from the KY-312 boat ramp area as family members wait on shore anxiously awaiting news.
The search continues by numerous area fire departments, including: Keavy Fire and Rescue, Corbin Fire and Rescue, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Laurel County DPS, Laurel County Emergency Management, Whitley County Emergency Management, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Kentucky State Police and the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Austyn Weddle is investigating the missing person case with Deputy Robert Reed assisting.
