Shop & Share event Saturday will aid domestic violence shelters across Kentucky

Date:

Kentucky First Lady Britainy Beshear is asking the public to help the Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence through the annual Shop & Share event on Saturday.

Kentuckians may shop from a list of items needed by domestic violence shelters across the state and then share the items by dropping them at Kroger stores across the commonwealth as well as select Save a Lot, IGA, Food City and Super Dollar locations.

The coalition is made up of 15 locations across Kentucky.

Cumberland Valley Domestic Violence Services in London serves eight counties in southern and eastern Kentucky including: Whitley, Knox, Laurel, Bell, Harlan, Clay, Jackson and Rockcastle.

Each shopping list is tailored to the respective regional shelters.

Cumberland Valley’s list includes: Laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent bathroom cleaner, conditioner, body wash, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, feminine products, 13-gallon unscented garbage bags, dryer sheets, pain relief medications, razors, lotion and allergy medications.

The list may be accessed online at https://kcadv.nationbuilder.com/cvdvs_needs_list

Volunteers will be onsite at many Kroger locations throughout the day to share the local program’s shopping list.

The event will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“My primary mission as First Lady is to do all I can to better the lives of families and children across Kentucky. A safe and stable home environment is foundational to that mission,” Beshear said. “Sadly, domestic violence remains a very real threat to the safety of many Kentuckians. Thankfully, KCADV’s programs provide life-saving shelter and support for individuals and families in crisis.”

Now in its 13th year, Shop & Share began as a partnership between then-First Lady Jane Beshear and KCADV. Since the program’s inception, more than $5 million in goods and monetary donations have been raised through Shop & Share for the 15 domestic violence shelter programs that make up the coalition.
