W’burg woman suffers life threatening injuries during machete attack

A Williamsburg woman had to be airlifted early Sunday morning after allegedly being attacked during a domestic dispute with a machete, according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.

Darryl Earls was charged early Sunday morning with first-degree assault and attempted murder.

About 4:20 a.m., Williamsburg police responded to a possible domestic dispute at 250 South Second Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they made contact with Darryl Alan Earls at the front door, who “was covered in blood,” according to the release.

“Officers then located a female victim with life threatening injuries to the head and face. Preliminary investigation indicates during the domestic dispute Earls Struck the victim in the face and head with a machete. The victim was treated by Whitley EMS and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center,” the release stated.

Williamsburg Police Officer Greg Rhoades arrested Earls, 30, who was charged with first-degree assault (domestic) and attempted murder (domestic).

Earls was booked into the Whitley County Detention Center at 7:27 a.m.

Williamsburg police are actively investigating and no further details are available at this time, according to the release.
