Whitley teen dies in single-vehicle crash Tuesday night.

A Whitley County High School student died tragically late Tuesday evening as the result of a single-vehicle crash.

According to Kentucky State Police, Cody Satterfield, 18, was driving a 1996 Toyota Tacoma north on Tacket Creek Road when the accident happened at around 10:00 p.m. Authorities say his vehicle dropped off the shoulder of the roadway, flipped and struck a tree.

Satterfield was pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley from injuries he suffered in crash. Police say he was not wearing a seat belt and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Satterfield was a junior at Whitley County High School. He was a member of the school’s JROTC program.
