2024 Ossoli Club of Corbin May Day Queen, Whitley Ella Hurst, recently had the opportunity to host a “Kindness Rocks” event to share her faith and platform, “Be Kind,” during Immanuel Baptist Church’s Camp 120.
Camp 120 provides students from across Kentucky, second-fifth grade, with 120 hours of bible teaching, activities, and worship to strengthen their walk with Jesus. Her message, rooted in Ephesians 4:32, emphasized how acts of kindness reflect Jesus’ love and address the internal struggle of choosing to be kind to others.
Hurst used engaging interactive snacks and visuals to demonstrate how true kindness can transform our lives and the lives of people around us, just as God transforms us. She also recounted the biblical story of Jacob wrestling with God, drawing parallels between Jacob’s struggle and the challenge of choosing kindness in our daily lives, reminding students that true kindness is selfless. Kindness means treating others with the same grace and compassion that one has received from God.
The students participated in a rock-painting activity, creating personal reminders of their commitment to kindness. Hurst encouraged them to use their painted rocks as daily symbols of their pledge to reflect Jesus’ love through their actions.
In addition to the activity, each student received a “Kindness Rocks” Kit to take home, which included cards for writing special messages and tips for spreading true kindness to transform our communities.
Ephesians 4:32 states, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
