CORBIN FALLS

Date:

The Lady Redhounds hit 15-of-50 from the field and was 1-of-18 from three-point range in a 45-38 loss to Shelby Valley.

Another key in the loss was a lack of free throws. Shelby Valley went to the line 24 times and hit 18 while the Lady Redhounds hit seven-of-nine.

Maybe it was jitters but the Lady Redhounds dug a hole in the first half when they committed 14 turnovers and trailed 22-14 at the half.

“The turnovers really hurt us in the first half,” Corbin Coach Jennifer Parsons said. Corbin (27-9) never had the lead in the game, but did make a tremendous comeback in the fourth quarter and pulled within 39-38, but six straight free throws in the final minute allowed the Lady Kats to pull away.

“Corbin is a good team and I knew they would make a run at us,” Shelby Valley Coach Rodney Rowe said.

Junior Sarah Ashley was the lone Lady Redhound in double figures with 10 points, she always led Corbin on the boards with eight rebounds. Corbin easily won the battle of the boards, 31-24.

Look for a complete wrap-up of the game with Coach Parsons in next week’s News Journal.
