Whitley student-athlete recognized for obtaining a perfect score of 36 on recent ACT assessment

Date:

A student from Whitley County High School recently achieved a perfect score of 36 on the ACT.

The Whitley County Board of Education (BOE) recognized Garrett Sharp with an award for Superior Achievement on the ACT, following his perfect score on the July 2025 test.

The award was presented by Superintendent John Siler at the Whitley County BOE Central Office on Aug. 21.

Sharp is not your typical high school student. He balances a part-time job at a pharmacy while participating in various sports, including tennis, basketball, cross country and football. Superintendent Siler highlighted the significance, noting, “When I looked it up, there were 1.3 million students who took the ACT last year. I think there were roughly 3,000 perfect scores. So, less than a 2% chance of doing that.”

Whitley County High School Principal Julie Osborne and Basketball Coach Eric Swords were in attendance to showcase their support for Sharp’s achievement.

“We are thankful to have him as part of our student body at the high school and couldn’t be prouder,” said Siler. “I know Garrett has been applying to different colleges. There will be free rides, I’m sure.”
