Outdoor burning ban lifted in Whitley County

Date:

The ban on outdoor burning in Whitley County has been lifted.

Whitley County Judge-executive Pat White, Jr. notified area fire departments Thursday morning.

The ban on open burning, controlled burning and burning of trash went into effect in late June.

Laurel County has a similar ban. Officials at the office of Judge-executive David Westerfield said Thursday that it remains in effect.

Under the conditions of the ban, area fire departments will respond to outdoor burning and extinguish the fire. Firefighters may then cite the individual responsible for the fire and find that person up to $150.
