One year after losing to Middlesboro on the road, Williamsburg broke its winning streak at home against the other Yellowjackets with a 64-22 loss.
“We played well for most of the first half,” said Williamsburg Head Coach Jerry Herron. “Second half, we had a lot of unforced errors that lead to some big plays and scores along with a few unfortunate injuries that caused the game to get away from us.”
Junior quarterback Reece Hatcher threw for 98 yards. He carried the ball six times for 28 yards.
Of those 98 yards, junior Trenton Cornett was on the receiving end of 52.
Senior wide receiver Eli Meadors led the team in rushing with 39 yards on 8 carries.
Meadors, Brayden McCullah, and Lane Jeffries each put points on the board for Williamsburg’s offense.
Hatcher converted an interception into a touchdown.
Friday’s game was a district matchup.
Williamsburg is now 2-1 in district play with wins over Pineville and Lynn Camp.
Williamsburg will face the Harlan Green Dragons on Oct. 23 at home.
Looking ahead to that matchup, Herron says his team’s game plan is simple.
“We have to take what they give us on offense. Keep our shoulders square and attack our assignments on defense,” Herron explained.
Williamsburg has an overall 28-44 record against Harlan. The Yellow Jackets have won every matchup between the schools since 2016.
