A GOOD GUY

Date:

The first game of the Tuesday night session could have been real bad, but Clay County Coach James Burchell had mercy on the Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats. Clay County led 14-6 after the first quarter and outscored Lynn Camp 22-2 in the second quarter. Clay County, 25-6, led 36-8 at the half.

A lot of teams would have come out and laid it to Lynn Camp, but Burchell went to his bench early and let the reserves play. Clay County outscored Lynn Camp 14-11. Then in the fourth quarter Burchell went farther into his bench and let everyone play, not concerned how the score ended.

Lynn Camp outscored Clay County 11-0 and it looked like the Lady Cats would hold the Tigers scoreless. But, Brianna Smith came through with a basket with less than a minute left in the game. The score ended with Clay County winning  52-30.  A very respectable score for a high school game featuring a top 20 team against one of the smallest school playing high school basketball.

So, just what does it prove. Nice men can finish on top and still have respect for the “little guys”.
