Garmon heads home

Date:

Corbin baseball coach Jeff Garmon is headed back home after a 17-year career with the Redhounds. Garmon stepped down as the Redhounds’ baseball coach and announced that he will be going back to his hometown of Glasgow.

Garmon, who couldn’t be reached for comment, sited family as the biggest factor in returning to Glasgow.

The veteran 13th region coach will leave Corbin with a 150-86 record including a trip to the state baseball tournament in 2005. Garmon led Corbin to five district titles and three trips to the 13th region championship game.

“Jeff followed Randall Sawyers and did a great job,” said Corbin Athletic Director “He carried on the same type of program that Randall had at Corbin.”

“He made a trip to the state tournament and he was great to work with,” added Foley. “He’s not only going to be a loss to the baseball program, but he is going to be a greater loss to the entire athletic program,” Foley said.

Foley said there was no timetable in getting a new coach on board. “We have advertised the job and we will wait and see what kind of applicants we get,” said Foley.

Garmon said earlier this week that he is looking forward to reuniting with his family once again. His mother and father live in Glasgow along with brothers and sister and the many nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Glasgow High School, Garmon played football and baseball for the Scotties. He is hoping to step into an assistant baseball role at Glasgow.
