Minutes after a Corbin man allegedly robbed a local gas station at knifepoint, police apprehended him hiding in the bathroom of a nearby restaurant.
Timothy Lee Lawson, 36, of Mobley Bend Road, was charged with first-degree robbery, public intoxication, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia in the wake of the incident Tuesday night.
According to Corbin Police Chief David Campbell, Lawson entered the Speedway gas station in south Corbin shortly before 9:28 p.m. Tuesday. Armed with a knife, he demanded money from workers then left.
Corbin Police Sgt. William Rose, who in the lead investigator in the case, spoke to store employees and got an accurate description of the suspect and relayed it to other officers.
Within minutes, officers observed a man matching that description entering Arby’s on Cumberland Falls Hwy.
Lawson was arrested while trying to hide from police in the restaurant’s bathroom.
After his arrest, he was also served with three outstanding Laurel County bench warrants.
Officers Rob Jones, Robbie Hodge, Rusty Hedrick, Jeff Hill and Steve Meadors all responded to the scene.
Rose is continuing an investigation into the case.
