Williamsburg Little League Baseball President Patty Faulkner was the keynote speaker during the Williamsburg Kiwanis Club meeting Thursday.
Williamsburg’s Little League program is run entirely by volunteers and could be the largest volunteer organization in town with about 65 volunteers, Faulkner noted.
This year there are a total of 14 teams, which each have three to five volunteer coaches. 165 children signed up this year.
Faulkner is anticipating 17 to 20 teams next year. She said that although the title says “Williamsburg Little League” the program draws children from as far south as the state line and as far north as the McKeehan Crossing area.
In an effort to improve safety, at least one coach on every team is CPR trained in addition to all the board members.
“We want to make sure that these children not only learn the game and have a good time, but we also want them to learn respect for their teammates, for their coaches and also for the umpires,” Faulkner added.
