Total outdoor burning ban in force in Whitley County

Date:

A total ban on outdoor burning has been issued in Whitley County.

Judge-Executive Pat White Jr. issued the “red flag” warning shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday.

“It is a complete ban on outdoor burning,” explained Whitley County Projects Director Amber Owens.

Owens said the ban will remain in effect “until conditions improve,” which will probably be at least a couple of days until the area gets some significant rainfall.

Owens said the ban was prompted by a few small fires that have broken out in the county, in addition to little rainfall recently and slightly windy conditions, or “perfect conditions for a fire to get out of control.”
