Exit 29 Marathon Station robbed at gunpoint Wednesday morning

Date:

Authorities are looking for a white male, who robbed a gas station off of Exit 29 in southern Laurel County Wednesday morning.

The robbery occurred about 6:05 a.m. at the Marathon Service Station, which is located off Adams Road near Ky. 770 and I-75 about 10 miles south of London.

A lone male subject entered the business armed with a pistol and took an undisclosed amount of money from the service station attendant, according to a release from Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

“The suspect then locked the attendant in the freezer and apparently fled the scene on foot west off Ky. 770,” Root wrote.

The suspect is described as a white male wearing all black, including a black hoodie. He is about 6’0” tall, weighs between 180-200 pounds, and his face was painted black.

“If anyone has any information about this suspect or this robbery, they are asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s office at (606) 864-6600 or (606) 878-7000. Information will be strictly confidential,” Root wrote.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, said that the clerk was the only one in the store at the time of the robbery and was not injured during the incident.

Detectives Kevin Berry and Kyle Gray are leading the investigation, and were assisted at the scene by Senior Deputy Brandon Broughton, Deputy Josh Scott and Deputy Keith Dinsmore.

The investigation is continuing.
