Three airlifted after Sunday wreck in Lily

Date:

Three people were airlifted following a Lily crash Sunday.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a three-vehicle accident late Sunday afternoon in Lily that resulted in three people being flown out by emergency medical helicopters due to serious injuries.

The accident happened about 5:23 p.m. on US25 about four miles north of Corbin.

A maroon colored Kia Optima was traveling east on Lily School Road when it attempted to cross US25 misjudging an approaching vehicle.

The Kia Optima then collided with a northbound maroon colored Mazda Familia on US25. The Kia Optima then slid around and struck a black colored Chevrolet trailblazer that was stopped on US25 southbound attempting to make a turn, according to a sheriff’s department release.

The driver of the Kia Optima, Anthony Dezarn, 49, of Manchester, was not injured. The three passengers in his vehicle, Uriah Setzer, 32, of Lexington, David Miller, 34, of Salisbury, North Carolina, and Dustin Burkhart, 26, of Lily, were seriously injured, the release noted.

The driver and only occupant of the Mazda Familia, Austin Sprinkles, 21, of Lily, was also seriously injured.

The driver of the black colored Chevrolet trailblazer, Bethanie Watts, 40, of Lily, and her two passengers, Michael Webb, 19, of Corbin, and Randall Campbell, 22, of London, were not injured.

Three of the most seriously injured were airlifted by PHI, Air Evac and Air Methods emergency medical helicopters to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

One seriously injured patient was transported to Baptist Health Corbin for treatment.

Deputies Larry Parrott and Daniel Grigsby investigated the crash, and were assisted at the scene by members of the Lily Volunteer Fire Department and London-Laurel Rescue Squad.
