Corbin Police arrested two Williamsburg men Monday after finding assorted drugs, including methamphetamine and heroin, along with assorted drug trafficking paraphernalia, inside their vehicle.
Ronnie E. Johnson II, 33, and Shane A. Roark, 35, were arrested about 4:30 p.m. following a traffic stop on Fourth Street.
Officers Basil Hodge and Jeff Hill conducted the traffic stop on the 2007 Pontiac after Hodge reported seeing it weaving back and forth across the centerline on Kentucky Ave. as the driver, later identified as Johnson, was playing with his cell phone.
“Upon stopping (Johnson) he reported he was trying to get his charger plugged in,” Hodge wrote in the arrest citation.
Upon further questioning, Hodge stated that Johnson admitted to possessing a needle in his pocket.
“When asked if he any more in the vehicle, he gave officers consent to search and showed us where a black pouch with four needles, $2,500 and two hydrocodone pills was,’ Hodge stated.
Further search of the vehicle turned up three hand guns, more than 30 grams of what Johnson admitted to be methamphetamine, and three grams of heroin, which Johnson stated was laced with fentanyl.
In addition, officers recovered scales, baggies and several cell phones.
Officers reported that background checks showed that both men were convicted felons.
Johnson was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – heroin, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – drug unspecified and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Roark was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – drug unspecified, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – drug unspecified, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Johnson and Roark are each being held in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Each pleaded not guilty to the charges Tuesday in Whitley District Court. They are each scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a Whitley County grand jury.
