Jellico man killed in Sunday night I-75 crash

Date:

A single vehicle accident late Sunday evening on I-75 near the Kentucky-Tennessee state line claimed the life of a Jellico man.

The Whitley County Coroner’s Office pronounced Robert Q. Hamblin, 32, dead at the scene, according to a Kentucky State Police release.

KSP responded to the single vehicle crash about 10:11 p.m. just north of the Tennessee line in Whitley County.

The initial investigation reveals that Hamblin was operating a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling north on I-75 when he lost control of the vehicle and it ran off the right side of the roadway and into a hillside. The pickup overturned and Hamblin was ejected from the vehicle, according to the release.

“As a result of the collision, Hamblin suffered life threatening injuries, and died at the scene,” the release stated.

KSP Trooper Scottie Pennington, who is the public affairs officer at Post 11 in London, said that Hamblin was not wearing a seatbelt, and that an autopsy is pending.

KSP Trooper Donnie Jones is continuing the investigation, and was assisted at the scene by the other KSP personnel, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Whitley County EMS, Emlyn Volunteer Fire Department, and the Whitley County Coroner’s Office.
