Lawson Bend Road slide repair nearing completion

Date:

Weather permitting, repairs are expected to be completed by sometime next week on a road slide in eastern Whitley County.

Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White Jr. said repair work started last week to fix Lawson Bend Road, which is located about 10 miles outside of Williamsburg off KY 92E.

The $90,330.50 project involves drilling and installing rail and cribbing to stabilize the roadway and keep it from sliding into the river.

Most of the project is being paid for using a Natural Resource Conservation Service grant, which requires a 25 percent local match.

“It has been a recurring issue that has gotten progressively worse. There are several homes that would be blocked in if there was a major failure of the road since there is only one way in and out,” White added.
