Raymond Clarence Surber Jr., age 73, of Williamsburg, KY passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond (R.C.) Surber Sr. and Shirley (Freeman) Surber; brothers, Joe Surber and Gary Surber; and brother-in-law, Alvin Ray Evans.
He is survived by his wife, Annette (Wormsley) Surber; sons, Eli Surber, Raymond Clarence Surber III. and wife Lyndsey (Bullock) Surber; sister, Sue (Surber) Evans; niece, Cortney Evans; nephew, Jagger Evans; cousin, Billy Stokes; mother-in-law, Janice Wormsley; and Poppy’s highly anticipated grandson, Riley Curtis Surber; special family and friends, Shirley Surber, Mark and Laura Teague and children, Melissa Foley and children; and many other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Raymond started out working as a dispatcher and firefighter in Jellico. He attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg majoring in education. Raymond took his degree and turned it into a lifetime of educating the children in this community. He worked in the Campbell County school system for 38 years. He was a teacher, principal, coach, and friend to many. He had a reputation of being firm but fair. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral service was Tuesday, December 13, at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Marty Huddleston and Rev. Scott Landes officiating.
Music was provided by Larry Boles, Kevin Walden and Pastor Marty Huddleston.
To honor Raymond’s wishes he was cremated and buried in the Surber family cemetery.
