Alice Fae (Buhl) Weiland

Date:

Alice Fae (Buhl) Weiland, known affectionately as Alice Fae to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the age of 84 in Whitley County, the same place where her story began on July 23, 1941. Her life was marked by her unwavering spirit, her dedication to education, and her profound impact on those around her. Her laughter and love left an indelible mark on the community she so dearly cherished.
Alice Fae was a pillar of strength and wisdom, and her legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her son, Aaron Archer Weiland and his wife Misty, of Cleveland, Georgia; her cherished grandchildren, Olivia Kate Weiland and Zella Rae Weiland; her fiancé, James Paisley Moss M.D.; her aunts, Betty Blakley and Clara Buhl; and her niece and nephew, Janet Miller and Robert Allen Ingram.
Alice Fae was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Archer Buhl and Elizabeth Blakley Buhl; her husband, CSM Don C. Stafford; her sister, Linda Sue Ingram; and her brother Roy Arnold Buhl.
A proud graduate of Williamsburg High School in 1960, Alice Fae’s thirst for knowledge led her to Cumberland College, where she earned a B.S. degree in 1965. Her academic journey didn’t stop there, as she went on to obtain a Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University. She dedicated her life to education and retired as a full professor from the University of Kentucky, where she made a lasting impact on her students and colleagues. Her passion for learning and her commitment to education were also evident in her role as Vice President of the Whitley County Area Teachers’ Retirement Association.
Alice Fae’s talents were many, and her hands were never idle. She shared her love for basket weaving by teaching classes at the Extension Office, where her students found not only a teacher but a lifelong friend.
Her involvement in the community was profound, as evidenced by her dedicated service as a member of Main Street Baptist Church, the Whitley County Library Board, and as the diligent Secretary of the Williamsburg/Whitley County Airport Board.
Those who knew Alice Fae would describe her as loving, funny, and passionate. She approached life with a zest that was contagious and a sense of humor that brightened even the dullest of days. Her passion was not only reserved for her interests and work but was also deeply rooted in her love for her family and friends.
Alice Fae’s impact on her community and the hearts of those who knew her will be remembered and celebrated. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of education, and the enduring strength of familial bonds. As we say goodbye to Alice Fae, we also say thank you—for the lessons taught, the laughter shared, and the love given, freely and without measure. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and her memory will live on as a beacon of what it means to lead a life well-lived.
