Alvin Ray Evans, age 74, of Jellico, TN passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Tennova Lafollette Medical Center.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Myrtle (King) Evans; his sister, Jeannie Shaw; mother and father-in-law, Raymond (R.C.) and Shirley Surber; brothers-in-law, Gary Surber and Joe Surber.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue (Surber) Evans; beloved daughter, Cortney Evans, and grandson, Jagger Evans; brother-in-law, Raymond Surber and wife, Annette; nephew, Marvin Shaw; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing. A special thanks to Shirley Surber for her support.
Alvin retired from the Campbell County Board of Education where he spent most of his career as a teacher at Jellico High School. Alvin coached baseball and boys and girls basketball there for many years. Alvin served his country proudly in the US Army as a Master Sargent where he retired after 38 years.
He served on the Jellico City Counsel for 40 years. He was elected to the Campbell County Commission for a term. He was a board member on the Jellico High School Alumni Committee. Alvin ran the NRA National Matches at Camp Perry Ohio for many years. In his younger days, Alvin loved to travel around the country with his Pepsi Cola family playing softball.
Before his decline in health, he enjoyed taking Jagger to church and seeing him sing in the children’s choir. He will be sadly missed in this community.
Funeral service with military honors provided by the Jellico Honor Guard at 8:00 pm Thursday, January 13, at the Llewellyn Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, TN with Rev. Scott Landes officiating.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm until the funeral hour at 8:00 pm. Interment will be 1:00 pm Friday, January 14, in the Surber Family Cemetery at Saxton, KY.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Jellico Rescue Squad or the American Legion.
