It was a deadly morning in Williamsburg Wednesday, with two fatalities occurring within a relatively short distance from each other.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department has shared details of a fatal traffic collision on 92E via their Facebook page, saying, “Early morning on 3-8-23, Whitley County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a collision that occurred on KY 92E. A deceased male was located on scene. A preliminary investigation indicates a Toyota Camry, operated by the victim, and a commercial Ford F-550 struck head on. At this point during the investigation, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a contributing factor.”

“The victim is identified as Arthur Siler, age 77, of Williamsburg. Major Tony Dingess will continue the investigation. He was assisted by Lt. Wayne Bird, Williamsburg Police and Fire, Whitley Co. EMS, Whitley County Emergency Management, and The Whitley County Coroner’s Office.”

Meanwhile, Williamsburg City Police were responding to a death that occurred at the Budget Inn Motel off of S. Hwy 25W.

Assistant Police Chief Brandon White said that WPD officers responded to a call just after 11:00 a.m. of an apparently deceased male at the motel. White and K-9 officer Johnny Fulton responded, along with officers Stacy Walker and Trevor Teague.

White said the victim was a 57-year-old male who was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity is not being released to the public until family can be reached for notification, and authorities are awaiting the results of a toxicology report before the exact cause of death can be determined.

Officer Fulton is leading up the pending investigation.
