Baptist Health Corbin renames its cancer center in honor of Tracy Owens

Date:

Baptist Health Corbin has announced the renaming of its cancer center to the Tracy Owens Cancer Center following a record donation to the hospital.

Family members of Tracy Owens gathered at Baptist Health Corbin Thursday afternoon for a ceremony renaming the cancer center in her honor. The renaming was made possible thanks to a $3 million donation that was made in her honor by Randall and Victoria Weddle.

A dedication ceremony was held Thursday afternoon celebrating the enduring legacy of the late Tracy Owens, who bravely fought cancer for many years.

The renaming was made possible thanks to a generous $3 million donation from Randall and Victoria Weddle in memory of Victoria’s mother, Tracy Owens.

Hospital officials said that the donation will significantly enhance cancer care at Baptist Health Corbin by allowing the hospital to expand patient services, improve access to oncology treatments and invest in leading-edge technology in surrounding communities.

“My mother was a beacon of love and strength,” Victoria Weddle said. “Her legacy will now help others as they navigate their cancer journeys. We hope this enhances care in a region where cancer is extremely prevalent and encourages others to seek answers and advocate for their health.”

Ryan Yother, director of philanthropy at Baptist Health, noted that the significance of the gift cannot be overstated.

“We have not seen this level of support in over 30 years. This marks a transformation in cancer care in Corbin and reminds us of the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many,” Yother said.

Since its inception, the Baptist Health Corbin Foundation has been instrumental in enhancing cancer care at the hospital. Their contributions have funded critical advancements that enable intentional, patient-focused care for families facing cancer.

“With every contribution, we strengthen our ability to offer hope, healing and innovative care, ensuring our community has access to the treatments they need without having to leave home,” said Mark Steely, vice president of planning and operations at Baptist Health.

Hospital president Angelia Foster expressed her gratitude, stating, “This generous gift ensures that Tracy Owens’ legacy will continue to inspire and impact the lives of cancer patients for generations to come.”
