BRMC welcomes first triplets ever born at hospital

It was a memorable moment at Baptist Regional Medical Center on the morning of Sept. 18 when the hospital welcomed the first triplets ever to be born at the facility.
Kailey, Hailey and Bailey Brown were all born within a minute of one another to Brenda Brown, 26, of Corbin and her husband of six years Jesse.
“It was a great benefit to BRMC to be equipped to handle triplets,” said Dr. William Black, the physician in charge of the delivery. “The staff did a wonderful job of pulling together.”
An average of 20 babies a week are born at BRMC, but hospital officials say women expecting multiple births are normally transferred to hospitals in Lexington because complications are more common. All three of the newborn girls were transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center after being born for precautionary reasons. They all had high blood pressure and sugar levels.
Flora Patterson, of Rockholds, said her daughter, Brenda, was on no fertility drugs. The girls are the couple’s first children.
“She told me she was just on vitamin supplements, that’s all,” Patterson said. “I thought they all looked wonderful. When they were born, I could have climbed to the top of the hospital and jumped off. My heart was just busting with joy that they were all OK.”
Brenda and Jesse were told early on in the pregnancy they would be having twins. After a six-month check up, the couple found out that number had increased by one. The pregnancy lasted 35 weeks.
“I can’t believe they are here and they are mine,” Brenda said.
Patterson said multiple births in a single pregnancy are not common in the family. She said her grandmother had twins.
At birth, Kailey Brown was 18 and one-fourth inches long, weighing 4 lbs., 15 and a half ounces. Hailey, born second, was 18 inches long, 4 lbs., four ounces. Bailey was 19 inches long, 5 lbs., 7 ounces.
