Update: Car stolen while owner at the polls

Date:

A man is behind bars after allegedly stealing a vehicle while the car’s owner cast their vote in Tuesday’s election.

A Knox County man left his car running in Lynn Camp School’s parking lot while he ran inside to vote. But, when he finished, his vehicle was gone.

Knox County Deputy Keith Liford responded to the theft. The vehicle was reported to be traveling on KY 830, near the OK Tire Shop heading toward the Gray community. Deputy Liford, along with Corbin Police Department, searched for the vehicle but was unable to locate it.

The driver managed to elude authorities for most of the day. But, that same evening, the victim of the crime located both the vehicle and alleged thief on Johnson Hollow in Gray. The victim kept the individual at the location until Knox County Deputy Chad Wagner could respond. Deputy Wagner arrested David Hutton, 22, of Gray.

Hutton was charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia with additional charges pending. Hutton was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene of arrest.
